Our Ecosystem

Our app is based on the idea of exchanging artistic skills. So many people would like to widen their horizons in terms of arts and crafts such as playing a certain instrument, working with technology, how to knit and sew… However, a great part of them do not pursue this desire. We want to facilitate this process by offering people the opportunity to acquire and teach skills while keeping it low-cost and encouraging social relationships. The main idea behind Switch is: you give some, you take some. We believe that everyone has something to offer and by “switching” their talents, people can help each other grow.

By making our app accessible for young and old, amateurs and professionals, we are certainly aiming at a broad target audience. Bringing together different demographic groups in one community enhances the chance of guaranteeing that everyone will get what they are looking for. We will adapt our marketing strategies according to the diversity of our audience. For example, we could reach students through universities and colleges or digital platforms, while bringing older people in contact with Switch through detailed folders and senior organizations. For now, Switch will be a local app focusing mostly on Ghent. On the long term, it can easily be introduced in any other city in the world.

Developing our app will include different kinds of partnerships. In an initial stage, we have contacted a graphic designer to develop our logo and advise us on everything concerning this aspect.

Furthermore, users of our app would be able to collect some kind of virtual currency. This can for example be obtained by teaching someone a skill without needing anything in return or by organising group lessons. We would cooperate with stores where you can spend this currency or get a discount. Of course, these stores will be in line with the interests of our users, as it would include stores specialized in music, technology, crafts…. In exchange for their cooperation, we would place advertisements in our app. In this way, we promote stores directly to an audience that is already interested in their products.

Another one of our assets is the possibility of event sharing. Events that could interest our users will be promoted through advertisements and even an invitation. For example, if there is a photography exposition nearby, all users who indicated an interest in photography, will be notified. This would attract additional partners in the form of music venues, museums, culture houses…

Obviously, we are not the only organization that wants to encourage people to share their knowledge or skills with each other. However, Switch is characterized by a couple of strong assets in comparison to its competitors. The main difference with official institutions, like art academies, is our flexibility and our trading system which does not involve any money. Both parties decide on the terms of their agreement and benefit from this artistic cooperation. In the end, you always end up knowing more than you did before. An extra added value is our effort to include older generations who are less likely to find their way to our app. This sets us apart from similar initiatives like Konnektid or Listminut.
